The IXS Trigger AM helmet is a mid-price trail lid that does away with extra MIPS-like layers, but adds value in terms of build quality and nifty buckles. In 2020 though, it looks dated and there aren't many size options.

The Tigger AM is an all-mountain and trail mountain bike helmet focused on lots of ventilation and good ergonomics. The brand uses interconnected channels to push air through from front to rear – it certainly breathes well, and feels cool when you're working hard.
Whilst the helmet doesn't get MIPS or other rotational impact protection system, like other helmets it does benefit from in-moulding, meaning the outer hardshell is bonded directly to the EPS later for optimal strength.
The ErgoFit-Ultra cradle is adjustable in height, and flexible at the rear to allow for movement. I found it all-day-long comfortable.
The cradle gets a large dial at the rear with a large range of movement. It needs this range as there are only two sizes of shell – Small/Medium and Medium/Large – so it's a case of two sizes trying to fit all. I just managed to winch this down small enough to fit.
The visor is adjustable into three positions, two for riding and one far higher setting for easy goggle storage. Unfortunately, I have to lay most of the blame for the boxy, dated shape at the peak's door. It's short and stubby and makes the helmet look wedge shaped.
The chin strap is easily adjusted too. The magnetic Fidlock closure is a cool feature, if a bit bulky – especially in conjunction with the extra padded covering. The padding is certainly comfortable though, and doesn't add any meaningful weight.
At £100, the IXS Trigger looks expensive compared to other non-MIPS lids. Compare it to the build quality of higher priced, more premium lids and looks better value, though, as it's well made. It's a sturdy lid, and as long as you don't care about aesthetics and one of the two sizes actually fits you, it should serve you well on the trails.
