Fox's updated Rampage helmet is 'spec'd above industry standards'

Fox's downhill-spec full face helmet has been a mainstay on the top-level downhill circuit for 20 years now. With such a tenure protecting the heads of many an athlete, it comes as no surprise that the Rampage RS has seen many iterations, but today, Fox has unveiled the very latest model, claiming that it's 'spec'd above industry standards'.

Modern downhill racing is absolutely nothing compared to where it all started. Now, riders are gapping huge jumps, navigating the most technical of terrain, and all at rather incredible speeds. To keep riders safe, the new Rampage RS helmet is certified to e-bike certification, so that's NTA-8876 and rated to ECE 22.06 - motorcyclists will know that's the European helmet safety standard for motorbike lids.
Importantly, that e-bike certification tests the crown impact at both high speed and at a lower failure threshold than ASTM F1952, the standard spec for downhill mountain bike helmets. The ECE 22.06 tests have been made at the chin bar in order to test at higher speeds, checking for g-force instead of deflection.
It's not all about protection, however, as Fox says that the Rampage RS is 5% more aerodynamic than the outgoing lid. So aerodynamics are certainly playing a role in modern downhill. The helmet is also said to be 250g lighter.
Available in sizes XS up to XXL, the new lid uses a revised head form that's more in line with the rest of the brand's helmet range, too.
Built using a carbon shell, there are tuned foam densities to protect against high and low speed impacts as well as a Mips Integra Split system to address rotational impacts. For those who like to film their rides, the Rampage RS is kitted with a two-position visor that can fit an action camera, and of course, its Ionic+ comfort liner is removable. Included in the box is a clip-on mud visor, too, so the helmet's ripe for all conditions riding.
As for pricing, the Fox Rampage RS will set you back £550.
