Promising a 'step up' in braking performance, Hope revamps the Tech 4 brake and introduces the EVO lineup

Hope’s new Evo range of brakes benefits from a host of master cylinder and caliper refinements to increase power, control, and modulation based on their intended disciplines. Alongside a smooth lever action and revised cam profile, the levers have a new shape with aftermarket options for different reach requirements. The GR4 (gravity), TR4 (trail,) and X2 (cross country) cater for riders who want a beautifully CNC’d brake with the usual Hope anodised bling.

Hope has announced a revamp of the long-standing Tech 4 brakes with the new Evo brake range. After four years, the Tech 4 brakes see refinements to the master cylinder and caliper in a bid to improve the feel, power, and control across a wide range of disciplines.
The EVO GR4 is set to boost all-out power with the largest caliper pistons intended for gravity and e-bike riding. The EVO TR4 blends power and braking control with slightly smaller pistons for trail bike applications. Whilst the GR4 and TR4 brakes employ four-piston calipers, the EVO X2 utilises a two-piston arrangement for a lightweight and well-modulated offering which will suit lighter down-country and XC duties, says the brand.
All brakes use the same master cylinder that receives a new cam design to reduce free stroke and provide a firmer bite point. Special attention has been paid to the lever operation with the use of roller bearing pivot and a piston bush to ensure a smooth action.
The lever itself has received a redesign with a more defined hook for increased control, along with a new dimple pattern. Along with the standard lever, there are two aftermarket options (Control and Power) which optimise the shape based on the desired reach.
Finally, the master cylinder has a new bleed port which allows the brakes to be bled with the use of a screw-in pot, which saves removing the lid.
The new one-piece calipers are not compatible with vented rotors, a design choice made by Hope with the aim to increase stiffness and improve consistent pad wear whilst making them more compatible with other disc options.
The GR4 and TR4 calipers both receive larger pistons than their predecessors to improve power, with the larger leading pistons helping to balance braking forces. GR4 and TR4 share the same pad, whilst the X2 uses a smaller option.
Pricing starts at £205 for the X2, £225 for the TR4, and £240 for the GR4 with black hoses; braided hoses are available for an extra £10.
Colours are the standard black or silver with coloured accents in the usual Hope anodising bling and will be available from 1st September 2025.
