Product reviews

The Slicy Sublimistick custom frame protection offers a combination of very personal looks and useful frame protection, in a set of pre-cut shapes. It looks good and lasts well, but lacks the thickness of serious protection, while the generic shapes won't suit every frame.

The custom element is the option of adding photos, logos, text and so on to the stickers, making them as unique as you like. The sheet is just over A5 in size, with two patches for the down tube, three for the top tube, four for the seat stays and one for ‘left base.' Not sure what that is…

With the graphics sublimated between the adhesive and upper vinyl layer, they are simple to apply and okay to remove quickly and reposition, but you will loose tackiness if you keep doing it. Also make sure you have a super-clean frame, as any grit or dust shows up in bubbles or bumps.

At 240 microns the stickers are around a 0.25mm thick, and the non-yellowing, scratchproof material applies easily enough. I found they mainly stay in place, but on the edges they can peel away from curves.

Slicey MySublimistick Custom Bike Frame Protector 2021 review 1.jpg

Over the months of the test, the subliminated graphics stayed crisp, the clear plastic remained clear, and they shrugged off all sorts of scuffs and muck. The top layer is the protective one and it’s mainly for knocks from stones and roost, but it isn't thick enough for heavy impact protection.

At €34.90 these work out around £30 to cover one bike. I think this is okay, if you are happy with the restrictions of pre-cut shapes. It's considerably cheaper than the ProtoBrand ProtoTape Enduro Kit at £45, for instance, and a much better product.

The Slicy Sublimistick frame protection is good value considering its very customisable look, good longevity and useful – if not heavy duty – performance.
