"Stability and grip without the sharp edges": Crankbrothers' new composite Stamp 0 pedals get plastic pins for beginner mountain bikers

Crankbrothers has launched the Stamp 0, a composite body flat pedal aimed at beginners and mountain bikers who want "stability and grip without the sharp edges" of a metal-pinned pedal.

The pedals come in two different sizes to ensure a better fit across a range of foot sizes and shoes, and are set to retail at £40, sitting just below the Stamp 1 composite pedals.
Beginner-friendly flat pedals
Look around the bike park or even the DH World Cup paddock and you'll see that Crankbrothers is one of the most recognisable brands in mountain biking. From pedals to shoes, it has a pretty strong hold in the world of mountain bike components and accessories.
The Stamp 0 is designed to be a beginner-friendly option, sitting just below the Stamp 1 composite pedals in the Stamp range. In a bid to make these composite pedals friendlier to your shins, they get 12 composite pins on each side, which are moulded into the pedal. These composite and moulded pins have been chosen over regular metal ones, as when things go wrong, metal pins hurt. Trust us...
The reinforced composite body is complemented by a minimal profile of 13.5mm in the centre and 15.5mm at the outer edges, meaning the pedals are slightly concave, which is the latest trend in flat pedals at the moment. The reason for this is that it offers a more secure foothold and thus more grip.
When it comes to the bearings, Crankbrothers has gone for sealed Igus bearings, which are fully replaceable, so if/when they get a bit crunchy, you don't have to throw out the whole pedal.
What's different compared to the Stamp 1?
Crankbrothers is offering a five-year warranty on the pedals, too. Another benefit of composite pedals is weight. The small size Stamp 0 weighs a claimed 305g per pair, and the large size at 331g per pair. Compared to 350g for the Stamp 1, it's a small but not insignificant saving if weight is a big concern.
There are several colour options to choose from and two sizes, small for shoe sizes between EU 37 and EU 42, and large for EU 43 to EU 49. At £40, they're £10 cheaper than the retail price for the Stamp 1s, although you can often find those at a discount.
The pedals are available to buy now from Crankbrothers retailers.
