The Montaro is Giro's long-standing open-face helmet that's built to provide top protection for a variety of riding styles. Now in its third iteration, the latest Montaro has received a ground-up redesign in a bid to provide 'aggressive trail protection'. Here's everything you need to know.

It doesn't take much more than a quick glance to realise that the Montaro III is a completely new helmet, taking only a few design features of the Montaro II, namely, its silhouette is somewhat similar. Speaking of its shape, the new lid is said to have a more compact form while it extends coverage to improved protection around the head.

Bringing safety is Mips' Evolve Core rotational impact system. This model of Mips uses a secondary cradle that holds all of the comfort pads, and it's designed especially for this helmet, so it shouldn't impede airflow. Speaking of airflow, there are 16 vents, a few of which are connected via internal channels that should guide air over the head.
For fit adjustment, the Montaro III employs Giro's Roc Loc system, which provides head circumference fit with micro-adjustments. It also offers height adjustment using a slider above the dial.

Wrapping up the features, there's a Fidlock buckle, a two-position visor, integrated sunglasses holders at the front and rear of the helmet, and there's an Ionic+ anti-microbial moisture-wicking padding. It's then CPSC / CE and NTA 8776 certified.
The Giro Montaro III is available in three sizes to fit heads from 52cm up to 61.5cm, and it comes in four colourways, Matte Black/Gloss Black, Matt White/Gloss White, Matte Stone/Gloss Stone, and Matte Dark Sage/Gloss Dark Sage.
It'll then set you back £160.
